The Virginia state champion Lady Buffaloes from Floyd County High School found themselves challenged hard for the first time this season and fell behind Williams Fleming in the third quarter at home Wednesday before coming on strong to fourth to take a 10 point win and a 4-0 record less than two weeks into the season.
Floyd County fell behind 50-41 in the third quarter but then came on strong in the fourth, outscoring Fleming 22-5 for a final score of 79-69.
Ragan Wiseman led the Lady Buffs scoring with 20 points as three other team members finished in double digits.
On Thursday night against Blacksburg, the boys led 25-23 at the end of the first half before pulling away in the second half to win 64-45. Caleb Tanner led FCHS scoring with 27 points, Justin Cunduff had 12 and Preston Neukirch 8.
The win put the boys team at 3-0.
After strong home stands, the boys head to Christiansburg Friday night to face a team looking for revenge for an overtime loss at the season opener last week and the girls head next week to Bristol for a holiday tournament.
