With a recorded temperature just north of Floyd reading five degrees at 5 a.m. Wednesday and a projected wind chill of minus 10 degrees, the frigid cold combined with a surprise snowfall Tuesday has schools closed, roads slick and winter making her presence known.
Snow accumulations averaged 2-4 inches in most areas of Floyd County.
Temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid 20s during the day Wednesday before plunging back to around six degrees overnight before slowly warming weather moves back into the area Thursday with highs in the upper 30s and a low of 22.
Then projected 50 degree temperatures on Friday 54 pm Saturday — the first day of February.
Sunday is expected to be a little colder with showers and highs for next week look to be in the high 30s and mid 40s with no return to single-digit overnight lows.
