Below zero again throughout Floyd County

Even with sun, the cold temperatures leave many areas still snow covered.

With temperatures below zero around the county this morning and secondary roads still slick and treacherous, schools remain closed for the second-straight day but forecasters claim the thermometer will actually rise above freezing to about 35 degrees by afternoon.

Power outages are reported in Floyd, Carroll, Wythe and Montgomery counties and Appalachian Electric Power reports 1,371 Floyd County customers are in the dark.

The forecast is even more optimistic for Friday with a projected high of 51 with a low of 27, then a high of 56 on Sunday with a low above freezing for the first time in days.

Then highs in the 40s with rain for most of next week before a drop into the 30s and the prospect of snow by the week’s end.
