With some precipitation still falling at 11 a.m. and traffic problems multiplying, Virginia Department of Transportation officials are urging those who don’t have to be on the roads to stay home until the temperature warms and snow clearance catches up with the storm.
The southbound lane of U.S. Route 220 in Henry County is closed just south of Ridgeway because of an overturned tractor trailer and a number of wrecks are reported in Floyd County where VDOT says roads still have problems with snow and ice accumulations and slick spots remaining on bridges and overpasses.
Appalachian Power reports 313 customers without power at 11:13 a.m. but no other outages in the area.
Temperatures are expected to climb above freezing shortly after noon and if the precipitation turns to rain the melting should begin.
Saturday’s forecast calls for sun and temperatures in the mid-to-high 50s and warming into the 60s next week.
