Students of Floyd County Schools remain home from classes Wednesday as hazardous conditions remain on a number of back and side roads but sports return in the evening while rain and warmer temperatures should ease most of the problems and give the area to a glimpse of normality by Thursday.
Boys basketball games against Giles, scheduled for Tuesday evening at the high school’s main gym, were postponed until Wednesday night, starting at 5:30 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for varsity along with a middle school boys and girls games against Carroll County, starting at 4:30 p.m. in the old gym.
A wrestling match postponed from Tuesday is set now for Thursday in the old gym, starting at 6 p.m.
The Lady Buffs face James River of Buchanan Friday (the 13th) at 5:30 p.m. for JV and 7 for varsity.
Overnight lows remained above freezing Tuesday night while rain arrives around noon and afternoon temperatures are expected to hit 48 around 4 p.m. and climb a degree or two higher overnight and top 50 degrees around 9 a.m. Thursday before hitting a high of 59 and possibly higher on Friday
Mud should replace snow as we go into the weekend. A sort dip into the high 30s on Saturday will return to the 50s on Sunday and next week is expected to warmer with highs in the law to mid 50s with overnight lows remaining above freezing with showers in four of the seven days of next week.
So much for the first snowstorm of 2017.
