Dire warning from the National Weather Service office in Blacksburg predicted rain, rain, rain and more rain for Saturday.
It’s Saturday. The sun’s out here in Floyd County and Southwestern Virginia. Where’s the rain.
Later, the NWS says. We can expected “scattered thunderstorms” about, say, 3 p.m. with a 45 percent chance of rain then, 60 percent chance at 4 p.m. and 90 percent at 5.
(UPDATE: As expected, the NWS forecast changed. By 2:00 p..m., the hourly forecast pushed back the “scattered thunderstorms” to 6 p.m.)
Of course, that could change.
By the way, welcome to Fall, the Autumn Equinox arrives today, which might explain why leaves are already falling around us.
Or it could have been Hurricane Florence, and the summer of rain and lots of other things that keep weather forecasters guessing.
Rain, they guess, remains in the forecast for nearly all of what’s left of September.
Of course, that’s a guess.
