The Chaffins — Braden and Avery — and Tyler Fenton delivered a big night for the Floyd County High School varsity Buffaloes football with a 35-28 district win over Carroll County in Hillsville Friday night.

Braden Chaffin’s 12 carries accounts for 85 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Avery Chaffin hit five passes for 84 yards and the other two touchdowns — both to Tyler Fenton.

After falling behind 7-6 after a failed point-after kick, the Buffaloes came back with a stampede in the first half with three touchdowns, including a two-point conversion, to go into halftime leading 28-14.

Following a scoreless third quarter by both teams, Carroll scored seven but Floyd added to its lead with a 36-yard from A. Chafin to Fenton and the extra point gave the Buffaloes a 35-14 lead. One of Fenton’s rushing touchdowns came from a fake punt that caught Carroll County off guard as he scrambled to the goal line.

Carroll County scored two more touchdowns in the closing minutes to close the gap to 35-28, but Floyd got the ball back with just over a minute to go and ran out the clock by kneeling on each of the four snaps.

The win gives Floyd a 3-2 record overall and is 1-0 in the district.  The Buffaloes face Giles next week at home.
