Mother Nature only has ice for us

The Winter Storm Warning turned into reality that continues to disrupt things in Floyd County and Southwestern Virginia

Floyd County Public Schools remain closed Wednesday because too many secondary roads still have dangerous icy conditions.

Even main highways like U.S. 221 and Virginia Rte. 8 have black ice in shady areas with temperatures remaining below freezing every day. To make matters worse, Mother Nature is threatening two more days of snow and, possibly ice, starting on Friday.

Oh, to helll with Mother Nature. I came home last Friday from covering a graduation of Recovery Court and before a strong preview hint of the upcoming storm left our steep driveway covered with ice too dangerous to traverse at night.

With my movements still limited to the leg wound that is still healing, I had had to miss the annual Chance Harman Classic basketball game Saturday where where the Buffaloes varsity basketball team overwhelmed Franklin County by scoring 80 points, more than double their opponents from Rocky Mount.

With school still out today, a scheduled home game wrestling match hosted by FCHS is is cncelled. iffy. Weather-related school closures normally also cancel athletic events at the facility, but it would be best to check Athletic Calendar online. It also shows the Buffaloes boys traveling to Buchanan to play James River but their County (Botetourt) schools are closed to students and employees today. Lots of bad weahter. Lots of reshuffled plans.

Also at the high school this week, The Buffaloes are set to face Pulaski Conty Thursday.. The Lady Buffaloes are scheduled to play Patrick County on Friday. Game times for both evenets are 5:30 pm for JV and 7:00 pm for varsity.

Weather permitting.
