Botetourt County closed all their public schools Wednesday for students and employees but still hosted the Floyd County basketball Buffaloes for a game the Buffs easily won 58-24. That puts the Buffs at 7-1, with their only loss so far to Oakland in a Holiday tournament during Christmas break back in December of 2024.

A makeup game against Pulaski. postponed from Monday, was rescheduled for Thursday (today) but was postponed again.

Floyd County schools were closed again today. On Wednesday, the Quad 4 wrestling matches at FCHS were postponed, tentatively, for Monday. While schools are closed today the Lady Buffaloes’ game against James River is scheduled currently for Thursday afternoon (today) at 2:00 p.m. on the Alan Cantrell Court a JV game at the same time in the old gym. Both games were from Monday and the storm.

The Lady Buffs are also scheduled to play Patrick County at FCHS on Friday, weather permitting, but forecasts call for more snow that day with showers and a 60% chance of percipitation early and this Winter Storm Watch: “Watching a potential winter storm. Snow in the evening will transition to snow showers overnight. Low 24F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.”

That, of course, is on top of what we already have on the ground. Will we have school or athletics on Friday?
