Trying to get back into focus

After spendi ng most of the past three years dealing with health problems, my eyes now need surgery to avoid blindness.

Most friends and readers know that I have been dealing with a long list of health problems over the last couple of years with new ones sprouting up just as I seem to get clear of the previous ones.

It is happening again as my eyesight has gone from 20/20 in both eyes to a mess of double vision, blurry views, halos on on lights, things that appear to move when they are not, and other vision problems.

After tests, I am prepping prep for eye surgery in the next three or four weeks, am unable to drive at night and must be careful eve n in the daytime..

Will surgery work? Unknown at this point. An eye disocated during a motorcycle accident a decade ago has damaged nerves and alignment problems, and attempts to correct visioin with glasses have failed. I’m set to meet with the surgeon on March 28 lean his conclusiions on whether or not surgery will improve the chances of seeing normally again. It might be salvageable, I could lose all sight in one eye or there could be some improvement but not enough to serve th needs fo a photographer who depends on vision.

I’m going to withdraw from public activity for the rest of this month ad concentrate on preparing for medical treatments to see if I can see at an acceptable level again.

With luck, I hope to see you again in April or May,

  1. Doug, trying to catch up with you. So sorry to hear about your eye problems. I can sympathize, as I am dealing with hefty Macular Degeneration as the result of being given doses of blood thinners during surgery. Getting shots monthly to slow progression. Working well.
We both send our best to you and Amy. ~ Gretchen
