One week after losing their first game of the undefeated run of six wins, the Floyd County High School came back and broke a 21-21 tie with a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Sam Phillips against the Knights of James River at Buchanan with 1:21 left and are 7-1 heading into a match at home against Radford next week.
The Buffaloes led 21-0 over the Knights at halftime, but James River came back with 20 points then added the game with a two-point conversion to tie the game at 21 all with just under a minute and a half left.
The Knights tried to come back and at least tie the game again or possibly win , but an interception by the Buffaloes 28-21 sealed their win at their 15-yard line with 10 seconds remaining.
Phillips had a hand in all four Buffaloes touchdowns, running in two and throwing another two to Gabe Hullett, who finished with five receptions for 122 yards. Phillips finished 6-of-12 for 142 yards and 12 carries for 78 yards.
Floyd is set for finish out the regular season at home on Nov. 7 with a Senior Night match against undefeated Glenvar. Game time is 7 p.m.
