Weather for this Friday looks like a warm but pleasant evening for the Friday Night Jamboree on Locust Street in downtown Floyd with gospel music on stage kicking off the evening from Homemade Gospel at 6:30 p.m. and two sets of traditional old time music from Skinny Creek String Band starting at 7:30 and into the night.

In my younger, healthier days, I would be wandering through the music on the streets outside, then inside to the Jamboree with my cameras, both still and video and had hoped to being do so this year but too many trips to hospitals have delayed such plans. I am currently taking it easy and staying off my feet a lot while recovering from surgery on Tuesday to put a pacemaker into my heart to correct an erratic heartbeat. It will take a couple of weeks to get back out — probably in July.

The music on the streets and the Jamboree are major parts of the Crooked Road music culture of Southwestern Virginia and are major draw for visitors and enthusiastic locals of our town. My photo above is one of my favorites of music on the street as are the video and other photos from the Jamboree and Friday Night Music.
